Where To Stay: La Calypso, Goa

When in Goa, we barely think about where to stay. It’s usually the budget hotels that most of us look at. Although on one recent trip, we decided to spend on ourselves and experience some luxury at the wonderful La Calypso Hotel at Baga Beach.

Booking: The booking process is smooth. You can call on their reservation number or drop them an email and they get back to you. You can also make an online reservation here. We made a booking through the phone so it was a quick, hassle free process.

Travel: La Calypso is located on the Baga – Calangute road and has a small lit up board outside. It is sited right opposite Cavala Resort.

Resort: So here is it. The hotel is beautiful with a huge, clean pool, a poolside bar, a second bar on the beach, an indoor restaurant, a spa and a mini casino! Isn’t that all you want under one roof?

We booked the suite which was a huge room with a living area, a bedroom and a balcony. Clean bedsheets and well maintained, air conditioned rooms with a television. The house keeping was prompt and quickly attended to us on every call.

The resort has a casino which has free entry for the hotel guests and a cover charge for the outsiders. Open 24 hours, the Casino was swarming with the young and old alike, laying their bets on the Blackjack and Roulette tables.

Restaurant: The main restaurant La Cafe is where the buffet spread for breakfast, lunch and dinner is set up. The food is outstanding and probably the only place in Goa where the Chicken is edible. The breakfast buffet had an extensive range of options from corn flakes and fruits to omlettes and sausages. Juices, coffee, tea and more, they take the quote ‘Breakfast like a king’ too seriously. We skipped the lunch and dinner for the local beach shacks but we are sure they would be equally delicious.

The poolside bar is a blessing especially for those who want to sip on their cocktails and beers in their swim breaks. Lastly, the beach-side bar is a good option to spend a relaxing afternoon on the beach. It’s not too crowded and has this gorgeous tent-like seating.

Getting There: Reaching Goa from Mumbai is simple. You can either take a train and get off at Thivim Station or a direct flight. There are also various buses that are great for last minute travels.
